George Elmer Gardner was born in 1880 at Tuba City, Arizona, to George Bela and Medora Owens Gardner. His family belonged to the Mormon Church and George was baptized at the age of 8. He served as a Ward teacher and was a Sunday School superintendent. In 1906 he married Lois Heward; the couple had five children. George and his wife were set apart as stake missionaries in 1938 to administer to the Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi Indians. Six years later they were made full-time missionaries and were assig...
